Writing Inside the Lines

May 10th, 2008 · No Comments

I’ve discovered something about myself while trying to set up this blog.

It’s a problem I’ve encountered here and in many other places. I’ve been dying to post more, but I’ve never been able to quite find my focus. My niche. My topic.

I think I realized this when I came across a page in an old notebook I had…

Lines

And I think that applies here as well. Why does this need to have any certain structure?

Unless I come to feel otherwise, I think I’m going to try to kill the filter and post whatever I feel like posting. That may be a big ‘ole well written post. Or a sentence. A story. A picture.

What ever I want, really.

Anyone else have an opinion on the matter? How do you choose what to post?

Updates!

April 25th, 2008 · No Comments

1) The front page is better now

2) I’ve decided to change some of the project. I hadn’t planned to use the blog for much other than big updates, but I’d like to share more with all of you. Expect more posts here soon.

And as always, I’d love it if anyone would buy me a drink.

This is SPAAAM!

March 14th, 2008 · 1 Comment

I feel a bit like Leonidas must have felt. Well, minus the whole almost certainty of a painful death. But still, the spam comments that have been hitting the site are ridiculous. Luckily none make it through to the live site yet, but moderating some 30 comments every morning isn’t that fun.

At least it’s slightly more interesting spam. They’ve turned into giant paragraphs of text that seem like some kind of madlib (sponsored by a drug company, of course… the ones that sell V1@grrrA. Totally legit, they said so).

Here’s some of my favorite lines (minus the links that are included on every 3rd word or so, of course) from the most recent one this morning. It seems that they went for a mythology (+ prescription medication) theme:

Poseidon any the getting triphasil 28 birth control tone which taking the plavix pain reliever migration.

First there for that what is the benefit
of fosamax under water how to commit suicide with clonazepam mayoralty.

Demeter took into fustian symmetrel and abnormal behavior stopped there die off symptoms diflucan mask.

Greeks forbear people slain glyburide 5 mg three ladies omeprazole generic prilosec folly.

They inflate their dainty lasix weight loss chief who alesse how long midnight.

Hector still darts around depakote er and hair loss the six augmentin 875 mg tablet knee.

Homer principall and fill generic name for protonix befallen him paroxetine detox except minnows forsworn.

So… do people actually fall for this stuff? They have to considering the constant onslaught of spam being flung around.

Fixed the Site

March 5th, 2008 · No Comments

Thanks to those of you who alerted me about the broken links on the site. Real life caught up with me a bit, and a few parts of the site seemed to fall apart in my absence. Anyways, I’m back now, and everything should be fixed, polished, and ready for viewing. Thanks to everyone who has stuck around. I’ve updated the About and Contribute pages–hopefully things are a bit more clear now. If anything is still confusing, let me know and I’ll continue to polish it up.

Switch?

December 17th, 2007 · 10 Comments

So, I’ve been considering switching to a Macbook.

I built this PC almost 5 (or is it 6?) years ago. It’s been very good to me, as I dropped quite a bit of money in to it when it was new. However, it’s starting to revolt. For example, this is what it looks like when I try to play a game:

Terrible, right? It’s not just limited to games. It was at first, but now it’s on the desktop, as well. Sure enough, I can barely even read what I’m typing right now. It’s terrible.

As far as my laptop goes, I have an old Dell Inspiron that never really got much use. It’s a bit too big to be convenient in a portable sense, and I’ve got my desktop here, so it never found a good, productive place to work.

Which leaves me to the future. I’m considering getting a Macbook. I haven’t really used macs in years, but I hear it’s worth a shot. I’d love some feedback in the comments if you think it’s worth the switch.

Back From the Dead

December 17th, 2007 · No Comments

Well that was interesting.

I’m going on a month of being sick, but I think things are starting to get better. I’m well enough to start using the computer for more than just checking email.

That’s a plus.

I feel terrible that I haven’t been able to update regularly. I’m going to try to make up for that.

More updates later today, I just wanted to let you all know I’m back. Off to see “I Am Legend” first.

Ugh

December 13th, 2007 · No Comments

To my faithful viewers: Thank you for sticking around. My illness has consistently gotten worse day to day, and several doctors visits have all resulted in no answers. Day 16 of feeling like death. Here’s to hoping things start getting better as soon as possible. I don’t know if I can take another sleepless night.

I promise to resume regular updates this Friday, regardless of my health.

Thanks again for sticking around.
